Kitchen and its vintage Artek chairs

 

Pihalla kukkivia kukkia on pakko aina tuoda vähän sisälle ja tällä hetkellä niin ulkona kuin sisällä tuoksuvat syreenit. Pari vuotta ennen muuttoa lapset istuivat vielä molemmat korotetuilla keittiöntuoleillaan, mutta nyt Suomeen palattuamme molemmat pystyvät jo hyvin istumaan tavallisen korkuisilla tuoleilla. En varsinaisesti etsinyt tuoleja, mutta kun nämä Artekin kunnostetut 69-tuolit tulivat seuraamallani antiikkiliikkeellä myyntiin lähdimme seuraavana päivänä Turkuun hakemaan uusia keittiön tuoleja.

So many flowers are blooming in our garden I have to bring some in every day. At the moment the lilacs start to be in full bloom and I had to bring some of that lovely smell also inside the house. As we moved back form the USA last autumn we needed to find new chairs to the kitchen. The girls had outgrown their highchairs some time ago already so we had only some mix and match chairs floating around. I had been dreaming of some vintage chairs and looking once in a while to find a perfect group to the kitchen. As I found out an antique store was selling these old Alvar Aalto's Artek 69 chairs we knew they were perfect fit for our home. 

Tuolit löytyivät Turusta Martin Aitasta, kiitos Facebookille. Liike on erikoistunut myymään käytettyjä suomalaisia design klassikoita ja erityisesti Artekin vintage helmiä. Itselleni tuolit ovat nostalgiset siksi, että omassa lapsuudenkodissani keittiön pöydän äärellä istuttiin samamoisilla puisilla tuoleilla. Tuolien edellinen omistaja oli kunnostanut vanhat tuolit ja maalauttanut istuin- ja selkänojaosat valkoiseksi. Tuolien sävyt ja ajaton olemus sopii täydellisesti vanhan talon uudistuneeseen keittiöömme ja on ihana, että nyt lapseni saavat samat tuolit omiin lapsuuden muistoihinsa.

I really love these Artek chairs as my family the same ones in our kitchen as I was little. We're lucky the previous owner had nicely restored the chairs and got the seats and the backrests painted in white. I found the chairs in Turku from a vintage furniture store Martin Aitta  that sells a lot of old Finnish design furniture and has a large variety of vintage Artek furniture. The design of these old chairs is very casual but also very timeless and they fit nicely the style of our old house and renewed kitchen. I'm also very glad that my children can also enjoy sitting in the same kind of chairs I used to in my childhood.

In the livingroom, the Botanic Shelf

 

Kolmitasoinen Botanic Shelf -prototyyppi matkasi mukanani Amerikkaan asti ja takaisin, mutta tämä korkea malli on kotimaisen Adean valmistama ja ihanan laadukas kaikin puolin. Tämä hylly on jo aiemmin saamani  suunnittelijapalkkio, joka vihdoin löysi oikean paikkansa olohuoneesta. 

Alunperin suunnittelimme hyllyn Kantinkosken Riikan kanssa toimimaan myös tilanjakajana ja nyt se sopiikin oikeastaan täydellisesti tuohon olohuoneen ja eteiskäytävän olohuoneen väliin. Hylly on niin ilmava, ettei se tunnu syövän tilaa, vaan lähinnä tilaa jakaen tuo tuolle kohdalle huonetta tarkoituksen ja hyvän valoisat paikat viherkasveille. 

Puuterinvärisen Hakolan Day-tuolin ostin viime vuoden Habitaresta ja ihana iso matto on ostettu Anthropoligien kokoelmasta pari vuotta sitten Ameriikan kodin isoon olohuoneeseen.

The newest furniture in the living room is the tall Botanic Shelf by Adea. We designed the shelf together with Riikka Kantinkoski a couple of years ago and it is now manufactured by Finnish Adea. In Finland the shelf is sold by Vepsäläinen and now in Finland and internationally by Finnish Design Shop.

Earlier I've only had the lower three shelved model that was one of our early prototypes. Now the shelf comes in three sizes and and as I got to pick one from Adea as part of my reward I chose the tallest one. Finally the shelf found a  perfect place in between the living room and entrance to kitchen. The shelf is designed to work also as a space divider and at the same time the plants can get all the light they need from all directions.

The powder pink chair is by Finnish Hakola and the rug bought in the USA and is by Anthropologie.
