It's getting green

Finally our furniture starts to find their places in the new home. Although there's still one bedroom filled with moving boxed the rest of the house starts to look more like home. The big windows in the livingroom were craving for some green plants and one day I drove to the local Home Depot and fount the perfect big plants. Adding some green really helps to add some cozyness to a new home especially when there's so much space that is still missing some furniture. I'm also so happy that the spring is here and the spring flowers are starting to bloom and slowly you can see the threes getting green.

Vihdoin tavarat alkavat löytää paikkojaan uudessa kodissa. Yksi huone on kylläkin vielä muuttolaatikoiden valtaama, mutta onneksi on Ameriikan malliin yhteensä 4 makuuhuonetta niin ei ole tilasta pulaa! Olohuoneen isot ikkunat tarvivat jotain vihreää ja yhtenä päivänä löysin juuri sopivat isot kasvit ikkunoiden eteen. Viherkasvit saavat ehdottomasti avaran asunnon kotoisammaksi! Pitkän sadekauden jälkeen on aika kiva nähdä kevätkukkien kukkivan ulkona ja myös puissa ja pensaissa silmut ovat alkaneet jo ihanasti vihertää!

The Apolis Seattle Market Bag is from the Glasswing shop in Capitol Hill in Seattle. The bag is made by local women's artisan co-op in Bangladesh and by buying a bag you support the poor families of Saidpurin Bangladesh. It's a very cool looking bag too!

Apoliksen Seattle Market Bag -juuttikassi löytyi ihanasta Glasswing liikkeestä Seattlen Capitol Hill alueella. Kassien myynnillä tuetaan Saidpurin Bangladeshin perheitä ja samalla tuetaan paikallisten käsityölaisnaisten työskentelyä.

Our the Botanic Shelf also found it's way here in the US home and it fits here perfect! Had to get a few little plants for it too. Soon (in May) the self is available at least in Finland and Sweden with the Adea re-sellers! Have a good day in Finland and Europe! In here it's still yesterday and heading to bed soon!

Btw, I just received a new rug to the living room! It's so beautiful! I'll try to take some photos tomorrow to show it to you too!

Myös meidän Botanic Shelf -hylly löysi tiensä tänne Ameriikan maahan kontin mukana ja sopii täydellisesti olohuoneeseen! Muuten, hyllyä saa pian ostaakin! Adean valmistama hylly taitaa ollakin jo ennakkotilattavissa, mutta kauppaan hyllyt saapuvat toikokuussa. Eli kuukausi vielä! Hyllyä myy ainakin Vepsäläinen.

Nyt en malta pysyä oikein nahoissani kun tilaamani olohuoneen matto, aika ihana sellainen, saapui juuri! Koitan päästä huomenna ottamaan siitä kuvat! Mukavaa päivää sinne Suomeen, meillä on vielä eilinen eli kohta petiin täällä päässä!

Familiar things in a new home

We are so happy to finally get rid of the worn-out rental furniture and receive our sea container all the way from Finland with our furniture, clothes, toys and other things. Although it's amazing how you realize you can manage with so much less stuff but still all the time it felt like something very temporary that you couldn't get used to. I think now we are going to enjoy the everyday life more too when being around the familiar things.

Sure I did realize it's possibel to manage with less coffee cups... But we didn't have enough glasses or plates so at least now don't have to be washing dishes all the time! Also kids can manage easily with less toys if they are something they like to play with. So this photo is of the only clean angle in the house as rest of it is still filled with cardboard boxes! I'll get back to the unpacking...

Saimme vihdoin torstaina merikontin Suomesta ja omat tavarat! Oli ihanaa päästä eroon kulahtaneesta lainasohvasta ja natisevasta muovisesta ruokapöydästä! Enää ei tunnu olo niinkuin nuorisohostellin vieraalla vaan paikkahan alkaa tuntua jo hieman omalta kodilta! Kyllähän siinä tietenkin huomasi kuinka paljon vähemmälläkin tavaralla pärjää ihan hyvinkin. Mm. kahvikuppeja ei tarvisi olla viittäkymmentä vaan näköjään ihan 12 kpl pärjää jo pitkälle. Lelut oli toinen asia mitä vähän kauhistelen nyt kun otimme aika paljon ja kyllähän lapset hyvin pärjää paljon vähemmälläkin. Vaikkakin onhan tämä melkein jouluista avata omia aarteita laatikoista!

Ruokailunurkkaus onkin ainoa siisti kohta kotona kun muuten paikka on pahvilaatikkokaaoksessa. Muutama päivä tässä varmasti vielä vierähtää, mutta aika helppo upottaa tavarat isompaan neliömäärään! Nyt meillä on n. 177m² kun kotona Suomessa n. 136m². Takaisin päin palaaminen saattaakin olla sitten hieman haastavampi yritys! Mutta nyt takaisin purkuhommiin!

Happy Valentine's Day

I just got back from a short trip to Helsinki and Stockholm. It was so nice to be back home and see some friends and especially my sister with my new niece. Here in our Seattle home we are still waiting for our furniture and things to arrive. I'm so lucky to have so many friends, old and new. I'll get back with some Stockholm update as my jetlag gives me a chance. The lovely love arrow is made by Tiina. Have a happy Valentine's Day!

Pääsin juuri takaisin nopealta reissulta Helsinkiin ja Tulkholmaan. Oli ihana ehtiä käväistä kotiseuduilla ja ehtiä nähdä muutamia ystäviä vaikka harmiksi kaikkia ei ehtinyt taas näkemään. Täällä Seattlen kodissa vielä odotellaan konttia Suomesta huonekaluineen ja tavaroineen. Ihanaisen rakkausnuolen sain Tiinalta. Hyvää ystävänpäivää!

New launch at the Stockholm Furniture fair

I can't wait for tomorrow. Yesterday I flew from Seattle to Helsinki and tomorrow I continue to Stockholm to the Furniture fair where Finnish furniture manufacturer Adea is launching their new product, the Botanic shelf! The prototype of the plant shelf designed of Riikka Kantinkoski and me was already published in our blogs a year ago and after that we presented it in the Habitare fair in Helsinki. All in all I'm so thrilled Adea loved our shelf so much they wanted it in production.

En malta odottaa huomista. Saavuin eilen Helsinkiin Seattlesta ja huomenna jatkan Tukholmaan huonekalumessuille. Siellä tosiaankin kotimainen Adea lanseeraa minun ja Riikka Kantinkosken suunnitteleman the Botanic shelf hyllyn! En olisi uskonut vuosi sitten kun laitamme hyllyn kuvat blogeihin, että vuoden päästä se jo on valmistajalla tuotannossa! Aivan huikeaa! Ihanaa, että Adea innostui hyllystämme niin, että halusivat sen omaan mallistoonsa!

Odotelkaas siis tarkempia tietoja Adean julkistuksesta ja pian hyllyä pitäisi myös voida ostaa! Käy kurkkaamassa myös Adean ständi B05:23 messuilla jos olet tällä viikolla Tukholmassa!

Found our American home

Hei! Koska muutimme Yhdysvaltoihin ajattelin kokeilla englantia blogin ensimmäisenä kielenä, mutta suomi tulee tuolla perässä eli voit hypätä suoraan sinne lukemaan!

As we moved to the USA I though I'll try starting the blog language first in English and the Finnish text follows below for all my Finnish readers

Here we are, getting into the American life little by little. We moved over in the beginning of January, a new year and a new country. Many new things to get familiar with and get used to. We were lucky to find a nice home pretty fast and we moved in with few borrowed furniture. Now can't wait for still few weeks before our own furniture and rest of the things arrive! But have to say it was a happy day to get a few first boxes by air after two weeks in here. So nice to have coffee from your on coffee cup with a good coffee maker!

It seems white walls are rather rare in this country but we were able to find a rental house with some as well as the wooden floors. Most of the places we saw were had either yellow or brownish tone walls so I'm pretty happy with just white now! The house is pretty empty now and can't wait to receive our things! We've actually visited the local Ikea for a few times already as for example all the lights are different than Finland and need to be bought in here.

We are in the Seattle are and happy to have so much sun and light compared to the Finnish winter. Obviously we've had some rainy days too, but they are just fine too. So now we are mainly just getting used to the everyday life in here but I can't wait to get our own furniture in and see how to decorate the new home! I'll keep you posted!

Muutimme tänne Seattlen alueelle tammikuun alussa, eli uusi vuosi ja uusi maa. Aika paljon totuttelemista uuteen melkein kaikessa. Onneksi löysimme sopivan vuokratalon pian ja pääsimme muuttamaankin tänne hetki sitten. Omat tavaramme tulevat kylläkin vasta parin viikon päästä ja siksi tämä alku tuntuu vähän hassulta avarassa asunnossa muutamien lainahuonekalujen kanssa. Pari lentorahti laatikkoa sentään tuli pari viikkoa saapumisemme jälkeen ja olipa ihana saada oma presso-keitin sekä omia astioita! Heti vähän helpotti.

Asumme ihan kivassa ja rauhallisessa lähiössä ja iso plussa amerikkalaiseksi taloksi oli mielestäni valkoiset seinät ja puulattiat. Vaalea keittiö on myös ihan plussaa ja vanhat kaapit oikeastaan aika kivat. Paljon kivemmat kuin tummat punertavat puukaapistot, joita täällä tunnutaan rakastettavan. Vaikkakin nyt täällä on ollut aika kylmä ja ymmärrän miksi kokolattiamatto voisi ollakin aika kiva makuuhuoneessa. Jotain uusia mattoja täytyy siis hankkia ja paikallisessa IKEA:ssakin on jo muutama kerta ehditty käydä hakemassa mm. valaisimia ja sänkyjä. Kovin paljoa sisustuskuvia tässä ei siis vielä inspiroidu ottamaan kun talo on lähes tyhjillään ja näistä kuvista huomaa, että ikkunatkin voisi pestä. Viherkasveja pitää myös hankkia, sillä olohuoneen iso ikkuna huutaa eteensä suuria kasveja.

Aika ihanaa täällä on ollut kirkas aurinko, luonto ja muutamien päivien +10°c. Nyt tässä on lähinnä totuteltu uuteen arkeen, esikoisen kouluun ja muuhun. Eiköhän tämä pikkuhiljaa ala tuntua enemmän kodilta kun saadaan omat kalusteet ja arki alkaa sujua.
